Alan Shearer chooses two Newcastle United stars in his Premier League Team of the Week
We're all still a bit raw after last night's defeat to Marseille, so let's forget about that one and cast our minds back to the 2-1 win over Manchester City on Saturday instead.
Newcastle were excellent on Saturday, beating title-chasers Manchester City thanks to two goals from Harvey Barnes.
It wasn't just up front where Newcastle made it count, though, as they defended brilliantly, keeping Erling Haaland quiet for 90 minutes.
As a result of that, Troy Deeney picked two Newcastle players in his Team of the Week for the BBC, and so too has Alan Shearer when he made his choices for the Premier League.
Alan Shearer praised Harvey Barnes' finishing when selecting his Team of the Week
Alan Shearer picked two-goal hero Harvey Barnes and brick wall Malick Thiaw in his Premier League Team of the Week.
Malick Thiaw (Newcastle United)
"Was solid all evening, gave very little away and produced a dominant showing at centre-back against one of the best strikers in the world in Erling Haaland."
Harvey Barnes (Newcastle)
"Two brilliant finishes and he should have scored another. Showed great energy and attitude, epitomising Newcastle's display against Manchester City."
Alan Shearer picked a Newcastle-heavy Team of the Week
Shearer also picked two former Mags in his team, with Elliot Anderson and Callum Wilson given spots too.
This is proof that when everyone is on the same page, Newcastle can be a force to be reckoned with, but it does feel this season that they need the St James' Park crowd behind them to actually achieve anything.
Sorry, I said we were going to forget about last night, didn't I? Erm ... Yay Harvey Barnes and Malick Thiaw!
