Eddie Howe and Alexander Isak were full of praise for 17-year-old Lewis Miley after his display against Chelsea.

Lewis Miley stepped onto the pitch as part of the starting eleven for Newcastle United's senior side at St James' Park for the first time yesterday and went on to show why Eddie Howe has so much faith in him.

Miley now has more Premier League starts than he's had wet shaves but the 17-year-old has ability and a footballing brain way beyond his years and he displayed that perfectly yesterday with an assist for Alexander Isak.

Miley earned his praise from Isak and Eddie Howe

The ball fell to Miley on the edge of the area and while everyone watching on expected the lad to shoot he instead bent a beautiful through ball through the Chelsea defence right into Isak's feet for the record signing to take a touch, turn, and fire home to give Newcastle the lead.

It showed a calmness and an ability that you don't often see in players so young and it prompted Alexander Isak to label Miley as 'brilliant' in his post-match interview with NUFC TV.

Also full of praise for the youngster was gaffer Eddie Howe who told NUFC TV that what he did shows that he's above his peers in terms of his development.

“I think in that moment, the emotion, the moment and everything that you’re taking in as a young player is probably going to lead you to shoot. I think that puts him above his peers, the fact that he’s got the ability to just calm himself down, he had to slow the game down in those moments and find the perfect pass for Alex.

"It was a really big moment in the game because I think we needed that confidence with everything that’s happened to us.”

The fact that Miley can still get better should be a terrifying prospect for our rivals

It's high praise from Eddie Howe and Isak, and the lad is just getting warmed up. He already looks settled in our midfield, but you'd imagine there are still some nerves for him to work through before he becomes completely comfortable on the big stage, so there could still be even more to come from him in the very near future, not to mention a few years down the line.

Newcastle United have an absolute gem on their hands with Lewis Miley and he has the raw talent and a way of reading the game that means he could potentially become world-class.

With that being said, if Miley is not on the NXGN list of wonderkids for 2024 there's going to be hell-on, mind.
