Newcastle United would certainly do well to bag themselves another striker this summer who can reliably deputise for Alexander Isak.
It looks extremely likely now that Callum Wilson will remain on Tyneside this summer after picking up yet another injury in pre-season that could keep him out of the season opener against Southampton in just over three weeks time.
Should that be the case and no new striker is signed, Newcastle will be kicking off the season with the nightmare we were so desperately hoping to avoid - having no recognised striker on the bench.
However, there has been talk that Newcastle have a couple of potential centre-forward targets in mind, one of which now seems to be very keen on a move this summer.
Jonathan David is the one we're pulling for here at NUFCfeed, but one alternative is Jhon "For The Love Of God Spell Your Name Properly" Duran to give him his full title, from Aston Villa.
Despite having only joined the Villans last summer from Chicago Fire, Duran has reportedly had his head turned by other Premier League sides with Newcastle, West Ham and Chelsea (seriously, at this point I should have that trio of clubs set up as a macro on my keyboard to save me time) all keen on the Colombian international.
Duran is still on leave after taking Colombia to the Copa America final, but he has spoken out about the speculation regarding his future.
Duran is aware of the interest from other clubs and seems pretty open to a move going off what he said to ESPN Deportes.
"I take it very calmly with the help of my agent and my father we are taking everything little by little, of course my name sounds in those big teams, it is very important for my career. I am happy that these rumours are happening and hopefully something concrete happens”
Villa have put a £40million price tag on Duran who they signed for just £18million last year, which doesn't seem to have put anyone off, so perhaps they are open to a quick flip despite Duran impressing on several occasions last season.
As we keep saying, Jonathan David is there for £40million (yes, £10m of that is agent fees but it still works out the same) so can we try for him first before going for Duran?
