Newcastle United maintain an interest in Boca Juniors winger Kevin Zenon and now journalist Graeme Bailey has given an update on the Argentinian's future.

It feels like years ago that I first reported on Newcastle's interest in 23-year-old Argentine winger Kevin Zenon but in reality the stories only started in February, not long after his £2.7 million move to Boca Juniors from CA Union.

However, since February there have been several reports of Newcastle's interest so it looks as though he remains a target for the Magpies.

Now journalist Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that Boca Juniors are expecting him to move again in January, just one year on since he joined.

Boca Juniors expect Kevin Zenon to be on the move in January

Zenon is courting a lot of interest for his performances over the last year and Newcastle won't be without competition. In fact, Bailey believes that Newcastle's chances of pulling this transfer off are low.

“The latest I have been told is that Boca Juniors expect him to go in January,” he said.

“He’s a left-sider, whereas Newcastle probably don’t need another left-sider. So I’m not so sure if Newcastle will sign him.

“But he’s a big talent, and the fee would be manageable.

“Newcastle have watched him and they like him. But I get a feeling that he might not come to England. The interest might be a bit stronger on the continent.”

There's no space for Kevin Zenon in Newcastle's squad

The fact that Zenon plays down the left has always been what has made us take these links with a pinch of salt.

If it were the case that Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes were getting on in age then we could see the value in chasing Kevin Zenon, but in truth he's the same age as Gordon, so we're not exactly looking at 'one for the future'.

Zenon looks like one of those players we will watch from afar and at some point down the line start whinging on social media that we didn't sign him when we had the chance.
