Newcastle United loanee Garang Kuol has picked up an award for his exploits in the Eredivisie this month.

Garang Kuol and Yankuba Minteh are two Newcastle players currently on loan in the Dutch Eredivisie with Minteh at last season's champions Feyenoord, and Kuol at struggling FC Volendam.

Minteh has been grabbing a lot of headlines lately for his performances for Feyenoord, but this week it's Garang Kuol's turn as the Australian international scooped the Goal of the Month award for October.

Garang Kuol caught everyone's attention when he played for Aussie side Central Coast Mariners with the then 17-year-old already earmarked for a full international call-up to the Socceroos.

Newcastle moved quickly and tied Kuol down to a pre-contract agreement. At the time it was understood that Newcastle would likely have to loan out Kuol to a European side when he joined in the January window so that he could accrue enough points to be granted a work permit in England.

Fortunately, Kuol was called up for the Australian national side and made a couple of appearances in the World Cup in 2022 which granted him enough points for the permit without a European loan.

Kuol was loaned out immediately, however, and made the trip north of the border to join Hearts in the Scottish Premiership. It was a loan that didn't seem to benefit anyone as Kuol struggled for game-time as Hearts went through a patch of bad form and changed managers shortly after his arrival.

Newcastle fans have a lot of hope for Kuol for the future

This season, it seems Kuol is getting more action in the Eredivisie but the club he's joined on loan, FC Volendam are currently second-bottom of the league with just four points.

One bright spot for Volendam was the goal scored by Kuol in the 3-1 defeat to Fortuna Sittard.

The ball was played across the 18-yard box to Kuol who took a touch to steady himself and then curled an unstoppable lofted shot into the top corner. It was the calmness and sheer ease that Kuol displayed that meant his goal was picked as the best of the month.

Kuol was signed by Newcastle with a lot of promise surrounding the youngster and fans are hoping that he can begin to get settled in the Northern Hemisphere and produce more moments like this one before he returns to Newcastle at the end of the season.
