You have to laugh - New report suggests Tottenham Hotspur have Eddie Howe in their sights as next managerial appointment
Eddie Howe's future as Newcastle United boss has been under scrutiny of late after a run of poor results and even poorer performances.
The Magpies have made it back-to-back away wins, beating Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, which seems to have quietened down the noise a bit, though.
However, after Eddie Howe put that final nail in Thomas Frank's Tottenham career, the Spurs board are, at least according to a report from TEAMtalk, looking at Howe to ultimately replace Frank.
Spurs have appointed Igor Tudor as interim boss to see them through the remainder of the season, but they could look towards Eddie Howe as a long-term solution.
Why would Eddie Howe take such a big step backwards?
Even if Eddie Howe's name has been floated in meetings in the Tottenham corridors of power, there's just not a chance that Howe goes there. Why would he?
There is no such thing as a long-term role at Tottenham. They've become one of the most trigger-happy sides in English football, with managers rivalling Nottingham Forest and Watford.
Howe is working on a long-term plan at Newcastle; he needs time to put his plans into action. We've seen him wobble and falter a few times here, and there's no way Spurs would give him the time he needs to turn things around as we have.
Beyond the stadium, what could Tottenham offer Eddie Howe?
More importantly, though, Spurs finished 17th last season and are flirting with a relegation battle again this season. Granted, Newcastle aren't having a barnstorming season themselves, but why would he leave us to take a massive step back?
Tottenham's appeal right now starts and ends with their stadium. Beyond that, what do they really have to offer?
There's an outside chance that Amanda Staveley kicks the doors in at Tottenham like she did at Newcastle, and working with Mandy again may appeal to Eddie Howe, but right now, there's just no way.
