Yoane Wissa 'only wants Newcastle United' as Brentford striker eyes iconic shirt - Keith Downie
Newcastle United had another bid for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa rejected on Wednesday before the narrative turned towards the 28-year-old heading to Tottenham Hotspur.
Former Brentford boss Thomas Frank is now the boss at Spurs, and he wanted to link up again with his star striker, but there were a lot of moving parts involved in any potential deal.
Spurs wanted Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace and were willing to add Richarlison to sweeten the deal, which would have left the space for Yoane Wissa.
However, Arsenal swooped in for Eze, and the Gunners seem to have won the race for the talented England star, leaving Tottenham having to look elsewhere.
Thomas Frank was dreaming of a reunion with Yoane Wissa
Thomas Frank would have needed to find a new home for Richarlison before trying to bring in Yoane Wissa, but it probably wouldn't have mattered anyway, as Wissa only has eyes for Newcastle, according to Sky Sports' Keith Downie, who posted on X that Wissa wants the Number 9 shirt.
🙏🏻 Yoane Wissa has repeatedly told Brentford hierarchy he only wants the Newcastle United move.
🇫🇷 🇨🇩 The fact that Newcastle has a rich history with French African players (Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse, Hatem Ben Arfa) is a big draw for Wissa.
9️⃣ 🙋🏻♂️ I’m told the striker has his eyes set on the no.9 shirt at #NUFC
💸 Newcastle had a £40m offer turned down today and now there’s interest from Spurs.

Newcastle simply have to sign Yoane Wissa
Newcastle's improved offer of £35 million plus £5 million in add-ons was rejected by Brentford, but the Magpies haven't given up hope.
Wissa might be aiming a bit high if he thinks he'll get the number nine shirt at Newcastle, although given how difficult it has been for Eddie Howe to bring in a striker to replace Alexander Isak, who would be the prime candidate for the famous shirt, Wissa may get to wear it for a season at least.
Wissa still looks like the most likely option Newcastle have to bring in a new striker, even though fans are starting to get a bit wary of the DR Congo striker, as his antics are mirroring those of Isak. It's getting to a point where beggars can't be choosers, though. If we had other options, we could put off signing a striker, but Will Osula isn't up to the task yet, Anthony Gordon is absolutely not a centre forward, and we can't rely on Isak, so we must get a deal done for Wissa ... and Brentford know this.
