Yoane Wissa made Newcastle United history on Saturday after waiting 96 days to make his debut
Newcastle United striker Yoane Wissa finally made it onto the pitch wearing the famous black and white on Saturday as he made a substitute appearance in the 2-1 win over Burnley.
The 29-year-old was desperate to sign for Newcastle in the summer, even going on strike at Brentford to push through the deal, but just days after signing for the Magpies for £55 million, Wissa picked up a posterior cruciate ligament injury on international duty with DR Congo.
That injury was serious enough to keep him out of action for three months.
On Saturday, after a 96-day wait, Yoane Wissa finally made his Newcastle debut, getting around 15 minutes of the win against Burnley to get a feel for life at St James' Park.
A clearly elated Wissa was so glad to get his debut on the board at last, telling reporters on Saturday that he felt like he was living a dream.
"It is something I have been dreaming of all summer and when it happens you feel like you are living the dream.
"So I am quite happy for that reception, which gave me goosebumps when I came on. It was a long wait, but in the end, we got there.
Yoane Wissa has etched himself into Pub Quiz history
While Wissa may have had to wait far longer than he'd have hoped to make his Newcastle bow, the former Brentford man has already etched his name into the Newcastle United history books.
As confirmed by the club via its official website today, Yoane Wissa became the 1000th player to represent Newcastle United in league competition.
Whatever happens with his Newcastle career now, you'll need to remember his name because it's inevitably going to come up in a pub quiz at some point in the future.
