Newcastle United have recently been linked with a move for one of the most recognisable players in the Bundesliga.

Rumours were that the Magpies were weighing up a £40million bid for Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry.

Despite having been a huge success at Bayern, last season saw the 29-year-old suffer with injuries that reduced his effectiveness, and as such, Bayern Munich have been considering the former Arsenal man's future.

With Newcastle's priority position in the transfer market being a winger, it was inevitable that they'd be linked with a move for the Germany star.

Sky Sports Germany says Gnabry wants to stay put at Bayern

However, Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has moved to shoot down those rumours on Tuesday by posting on X that Gnabry would not entertain the idea of a move to Newcastle.

"Rumours about a possible transfer of Serge #Gnabry to @NUFC are wide of mark. Newcastle are interested but Gnabry won’t join #NUFC.

"… and the 29 y/o still has no intention of leaving FC Bayern as he wants to stay. Contract valid until 2026."

Serge Gnabry to Newcastle never felt likely to happen

With Bayern signing Michael Olise from Crystal Palace this summer, Newcastle likely felt that they had a shot of getting the German giants to part with Gnabry, and while the club may have been convinced to part with him, it seems the player is less than keen.

Arsenal were also looking at bringing Gnabry back, but if what Plettenberg has said is to be believed, it's not a case of rejecting the club rather than having no desire to leave Bayern.

A move for Serge Gnabry always felt a little bit fanciful. Also, given his age and his injury record last season, it wasn't a move that made sense to us, so we're not too upset to see this rumour debunked.
