What Yoane Wissa is doing to get back to full fitness as he waits to make Newcastle United debut
Yoane Wissa has been a Newcastle United player for over two months already and is yet to make his debut for his new club.
Just days after signing for the club for £55 million, Yoane Wissa, who didn't train for a large part of the summer in order to push through a move to Newcastle, linked up with DR Congo in September.
While Wissa scored two goals and assisted another, he was forced to withdraw in the second half of his second match after picking up a knee injury.
That injury has kept the 29-year-old out of action ever since, and his wait to make his Newcastle debut continues.
Yoane Wissa has been heading to Jesmond swimming pool for a bit of extra training
Thankfully, Wissa is back on the grass and working hard to get back to match fitness. Indeed, reports today have revealed that the former Brentford man is putting in extra work after being spotted in the local swimming pool at Jesmond.
The Chronicle reports that club insiders have revealed that Wissa is doing this in his own free time on top of his recovery programme with the club.
“He is doing all of this in his free time.
“There are hydro facilities at the training ground so he can get into the water there. So this is about using his own free time to get in shape.”
Yoane Wissa needs to hit the ground running when he returns to fitness
We hope all this extra work translates to him hitting the ground running when he's back in contention.
Newcastle are absolutely screaming out for someone to put the ball in the net lately, and Wissa was brought in to be the man to do that this summer. Instead, we've had to rely on Nick Woltemade, who has stepped up much more than anyone expected, but is still not the finished article by any means.
The big question is how Wissa will slot into this system that's causing so many problems this season. Will we have to change things up again, or will Wissa slot in more like Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak did? Hopefully, that's the case as the lads haven't got a clue how to get the best out of Big Nick yet.
