What the Brazilian media said about Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes after win over Colombia

Bruno Guimaraes started for Brazil and played 78 minutes for his country as the Seleção Canarinho left it late to see off Colombia in last night's World Cup qualifier.

While the Brazilian media weren't so kind to Joelinton who came on as a 28th minute substitute and contributed to Colombia's equaliser, they were a bit more lenient with Bruno Guimaraes.

However, the Newcastle United captain didn't seem to overly impress his native scribes.

It sounded like a pretty average performance from Bruno who might still have been feeling a bit shaky after letting Liverpool back into the game late on at Wembley on Sunday.

Globo Esporte say Bruno faded as the game went on

Globo Esporte handed Bruno a 6/10 rating, which is about as average as it gets when it comes to football ratings, with them saying he faded into obscurity as the game went on.

They also noted that Bruno picked up a yellow card which sees him miss the next game for Brazil as they take on Argentina. A chance for Joelinton to step up, perhaps?

"He clarified the game with good reversals of play and throw-ins. In the 15th minute, he arrived late, committed a foul near the Colombian penalty area and received a card that will rule him out of the derby against Argentina. He made a good individual move at the start of the second half, but then didn't make much of an appearance and was substituted."

Bruno looked more comfortable after the introduction of Joelinton

Meanwhile, Goal handed him the same score again, but they made mention of how he looked a lot more comfortable after his clubmate Joelinton entered the fray.

"Solid in the middle of the park as normal, but was overwhelmed at times by Colombia's press. His partnership with Joelinton felt more natural after Gerson's departure, but that was expected for the Newcastle duo."

Given that he's unable to play in the next game, that's good news for Newcastle as it massively reduces the risk of him picking up an injury ahead of the Brentford game.
