'What dreams are made of': Bradford City forward Andy Cook couldn't contain his excitement at Carabao Cup draw against Newcastle United
Bradford City forward Andy Cook is hoping he can realise a lifelong dream at the end of this month when his club travels to St James' Park to take on Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup third round.
Andy Cook is a lifelong Newcastle United fan. The 34-year-old was born in Bishop Auckland and said he 'screamed the house down' when he saw the Bantams name drawn against his beloved NUFC.
Even more so because the game is to be played at St James' Park, which gives Cook the chance to realise a dream of playing on the St James' Park pitch.
Cook is currently recovering from an injury, but he made sure that the physios know that whatever happens between now and the 24th September, he is playing in that game.
Andy Cook faces a race against time to be fit to play at St James' Park
Speaking to The Yorkshire Post, Cook said the first thing he did when the draw was announced was message the club physio.
“It’s my dream to play there in a competitive game, so hopefully I can be involved.
“I screamed the house down…I am not even joking.
“I told the physios straight away. I sent them a message and said: ‘don’t care what you say, I’m ready’. I don’t think it works like that, but I obviously told them.
“I’ve never been on the pitch at St James’ Park, so to do that would be unreal. It’s what dreams are made of.”
Andy Cook could get to live the dream, but as long as it's not too much of a dream
We hope that Cook gets the okay from the physios to play; he's got a couple of weeks to get back up to full fitness.
We'll even go as far as to say we hope he scores at the Gallowgate End to have that experience, as long as it's a mere consolation goal.
We'd all love to realise that dream of playing and scoring at St James' Park, so we wouldn't want to rob him of that, but tasting a victory there would be too much, sorry, Andy.
