On one hand, celebrating a point at home like it was a win may seem a bit overboard, but given it was a point against the Premier League champions who have had the beating of Newcastle United in the league for so long, then we're justified in our actions.

Not only was it a fantastic point for Eddie Howe's team, but the manner in which the team worked for it is what is truly the big story here.

After failing to impress in any of the games so far this season, Newcastle really got it together today to face their biggest test so far.

Everyone on the pitch was vastly improved and the midfield trio of Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali were excellent for the most part - there were times that Joelinton was caught in possession, but we'll let him off this week.

Bruno has demanded that Newcastle set the standard for the season

Captain Bruno took to social media to demand his team take the form from today and use it as the standard going forward.

"Very good standards for ourselves today! We must keep it going! I'm pleased with our performance today. Howay the lads"

If we'd played like this against any other team in the league, we'd have won comfortably, so if we can maintain this standard going forward, and with a striker on the pitch too, then those Champions League places are looking very attainable.

Will Osula masterclass coming against Wimbledon on Tuesday

It just felt like this performance would dictate our season after a string of poor outings. If we'd been buried by Man City at home today, there's no telling how catastrophic that could have been for morale in and around the club.

But things feel a whole lot better already after just one good performance, so it's time to kick on, starting with a Will Osula masterclass on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup against AFC Wimbledon.

The poor lad was stripped and ready to come on today but time ran out on him, but with Isak and Wilson out, we expect Osula will be given his first start against League Two Wimbledon on Tuesday night.
