Anthony Gordon came through his England debut with his head held high after being the Three Lions' closest thing to a goal threat all game.

Ollie Watkins was given the responsibility of leading the line for England in the absence of Harry Kane and if he is our best bet to back-up Kane in Euro 2024 then we really hope that the Bayern Munich striker is at peak fitness.

In what was a fairly dull game all round, I can only remember one Watkins chance and it came down with snow on it. Meanwhile, Anthony Gordon tested the Brazil keeper on numerous occasions before making way for Marcus Rashford just after the 70-minute mark.

It was a solid debut for the flying winger and should be giving Gareth Southgate to think about ahead of picking his Euro 2024 squad.

Gordon had a good debut for England

Anthony Gordon has developed an understanding with England's brightest star

Speaking to talkSPORT after the game (23/03/24 at 9:20 pm) (h/t HITC) Gordon was asked who he's most enjoyed playing alongside.

“Everyone, to be honest with you.

“But I loved playing with Jude (Bellingham). He always wants the ball, he is always looking to be positive and create things.

“I think we have had a link-up in training, which I have really enjoyed and tonight showed it. But unfortunately, we couldn’t get a goal from it. The more I play with him and the other different players, the more I get used to how they play.”

Gordon and Bellingham could be a formidable partnership this summer

Gordon is teasing a potentially dangerous partnership for the upcoming European championship, let's just hope they can build on it and give Southgate no option but to play the two together.

If only Gordon could convince Bellingham to turn his back on that tiny club he plays for in Spain and join the Newcastle United revolution.

For now, though, those of us with English blood will just have to make-do with watching them pair up in the famous white and blue.
