'We demand more': Kieran Trippier doesn't hold back with his assessment of England's poor performance

Newcastle United captain Kieran Trippier won his 50th England cap in last night's dire 1-1 draw with Denmark at Euro 2024.

Like every other player in a white shirt on the pitch, Kieran Trippier didn't have the most remarkable of games and again, like everyone else, was guilty of a few misplaced passes.

For the player who was running away at the top of the assist charts early in the Premier League season, Trippier seems terrified of putting a cross in for England, whether he's just not comfortable being out on the left, or he's not seeing options or he's simply being told not to by Mr Negative, we don't know.

Trippier had very little to celebrate after picking up his 50th international cap and he didn't hold much back when talking to The Telegraph about the game.

Nut him, Tripps!

Trippier is trying to be the voice of reason

Although he does say that the plan doesn't need ripping up (it does) he does admit that if they play like that against better opposition they'll get battered.

“We gave passes away and against better opposition we get punished. We got away with a couple and understand people’s frustration but the most important thing is, from an experienced player in the team, is that we stay calm, we stay together, which is the most important thing in tournament football.

“No, it doesn’t need ripping [up]. There’s no need to panic. Of course the performances, we know we can do better. We know the supporters expect better and we demand more as well. We need to analyse, on and off the ball. The quality we have in the team with the ball, we can play so much better.”

England are still on track - somehow

Despite the awful performances, England are in a strong position to qualify from the group, in fact, it is practically nailed on, but the unconvincing way in which the Three Lions have gone about it does not inspire confidence going forward.

That being said, this is how England do it under Southgate. A win then a draw in their first group games and it got them to the final of the last Euros.

Not that it makes it any less painful to sit through watching them defending a one-goal lead as if that's all they're rationed to just one goal per game.
