Newcastle United just wanted to keep the race for the Champions League places interesting so they opted not to turn their domination over Brighton and Hove Albion into a win on Sunday. That's how we are choosing to cope with it, anyway.
In all seriousness, we have no idea what it is about Brighton, especially on their turf, but they've always got us sussed and in our view, a 1-1 draw was probably the right result on Sunday.
A win would probably have overshadowed referee Craig Pawson on the day anyway, and we can't have that, can we? Newcastle had two penalty decisions overturned, and then, when we had one, that was as clear as day, they spent an eternity checking it before it was given.
Newcastle probably didn't do enough to create chances organically and needed a penalty to score, and that's what was the biggest issue.
Wayne Rooney was on pundit duty on Match of the Day 2, and he said that Newcastle dominated the game but needed to work on the little things, but he loved that they kept plugging away.
“I think Newcastle are a really good team and a good watch as well.
“They dominated the game. They were unfortunate to go a goal behind, but what I liked about them was that they kept pushing.
“They kept finding themselves in the right areas and doing the right things – it was just their little details. They have to get those right and then they win games comfortably.”
There are only three games left in the season so hopefully those little details are something that we can work on in time to face Chelsea at the weekend.
In the last two games, we have barely seen Alexander Isak have a touch of the ball, and that's probably the little detail Rooney is talking about.
Early in the second half on Sunday, Sky Sports put up a touch map for Isak, and we were shocked that it wasn't blank because we didn't remember a single one.
We have to get him into games more, and to be fair, he has to get himself into games more and then create more chances when he gets the ball, maybe take a speculative shot every now and then just to see what happens.
