The banks of the Quayside opposite the Baltic Flour Mill were packed with Newcastle United fans last night as they turned out to see the light show put on by the club's front-of-shirt sponsor, Sela.

This isn't the first time Sela have impressed the fans with pretty lights after having created an amazing drone display above St James' Park to mark Newcastle's return to the Champions League.

Last night was an entirely different type of display with a video projected onto the wall of the Baltic while 3D images were projected above the water of the River Tyne.

Fans started gathering outside the Pitcher and Piano hours before the event's 10pm start and seemed completely unfazed when the show was pushed back to 10:30 with everyone in good spirits singing along to the tunes blasted around the Quayside.

Sir Bobby Robson's appearance got the biggest reaction

We're still waiting for an official video of the event to surface but Tyneside Life's video is the best one we've found so far, so if you weren't able to make it there last night, or missed the event being streamed, here it is.

It was an eight-minute extravaganza showcasing legends past and present with some iconic moments featured and a few words from the late, great Sir Bobby Robson which got the biggest reaction.

The whole idea was creative and impressive from a technical standpoint and it all went off without a hitch - barring the late start.

You can't please everyone...

The big question is, though - why? For all it was fun and something a bit different, it was essentially an eight-minute advert for Sela with one attendee we spoke to saying afterwards:

"What a letdown. There were thousands of people there.

"How many other clubs would get thousands out on a Saturday night to stand and stare at a Sela logo for an hour?"

A bit cynical perhaps, and we know they were just joking, but ... do they have a point?

Nah, it was fun, I enjoyed it.
