Newcastle United have had a few players in action over the last few days as international games have taken place.

Most notably Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon faced off at Wembley last night with Bruno's Brazil emerging victorious by a narrow 1-0 margin.

Also in action for Slovakia was Martin Dubravka who is currently Newcastle's number one in the absence of Nick Pope.

Dubravka has had some good games for Newcastle this season, but overall his ability to keep a clean sheet has fallen way short of the bar set by Pope.

Martin Dubravka is now a part of history

Last night, in a game against Austria it took Dubravka's goal just six seconds to be breached after the kick-off in what is now the fastest goal in international football.

Austrian Christoph Baumgartner waltzed through the Slovakian team as if they were rooted to the spot before firing low to Dubravka's right.

The Newcastle 'keeper should have done better with the effort, but he can't be solely to blame as there was absolutely no effort to stop the run in front of him.

Newcastle's defense has been very leaky this season to say the least

Slovakia went on to lose the game 2-0. It's hardly the confidence boost that we'd have been hoping our 'keeper to receive while he was away. If anything, it just has us wishing Pope would recover faster.

The England goalkeeper is not expected to be back in action until the end of next month, and with Newcastle desperate to put together a run of form to grab a European place, we're hoping Dubravka, and indeed the defenders in front of him, can do more to keep the GA column from getting out of hand.

Currently, only West Ham have conceded more goals than Newcastle of any team in the top half of the table with 50 compared to our 48 and that's a stat that simply must change if we're to achieve anything in the last few weeks of the season.
