The January transfer window can't come soon enough for Newcastle United fans. After the disappointment in the summer window there's huge expectation on Paul Mitchell to do something big as a way of making up for it.
It's probably not the best idea to get our hopes up, but we can't help it when we're being linked with top players in positions that we desperately need reinforcements.
Eddie Howe will be very grateful if Paul Mitchell can deliver him a right-winger who can take the side to the next level and it seems Mitchell has got the brief.
It has been reported this week that Mitchell has his sights on £50 million-rated Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.
The 25-year-old Cameroon international has been high on fans' wish list for a while and it now appears he's made it to the top of the club's list ahead of the winter window too.
If you weren't sure about Mbeumo then you just have to look at how he now has eight goals in nine Premier League games following a brace against Ipswich on Saturday afternoon.
After going 2-0 down, Brentford hit back with a Yoan Wissa double to level the score, then Bryan Mbeumo scored a cheeky spot kick to give Brentford the lead before another Newcastle United target Liam Delap equalised for the Tractor Boys. However, Bryan Mbeumo bagged a winner in spectacular/bizarre fashion six minutes into stoppage time at the end of the game.
Picking up the ball on the wide right, Mbeumo cut inside and hit a cross-cum-shot that evaded everybody in the box and found its way into the bottom corner of the net.
If he meant it, it was an absolute stunner, and if he didn't then it was one of the luckiest goals of the season. Either way, it looked fantastic.
Mbeumo continues to score freely which is something Newcastle need to start doing. He could solve two problems if we were able to bring him in in January.
