Vote Now: Newcastle United man among options for Premier League player of Matchweek 20
Newcastle United players have been recognised in two Team of the Week selections after their 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.
Lewis Miley featured in the WhoScored? Team of the Week, as did Malick Thiaw, who also appeared in Troy Deeney's picks for the BBC.
A goal by a defender is always going to get them a juicy score and put them into the minds of the pundits selecting the teams.
The Premier League have also recognised Malick Thiaw's contribution on Sunday as the German defender has been shortlisted for Player of Matchweek 20.
Malick Thiaw is in contention for the Premier League's Player of the Matchweek
Thiaw faces some stiff competition, and obviously, the only player who received a higher rating than him at the weekend on WhoScored?, Igor Thiago is in the mix after his hat-trick against Everton.
The Premier League called Malick Thiaw a 'key figure' in Newcastle's win over Palace, and you can vote for him by following this link.
Malick Thiaw (Newcastle United 2-0 Crystal Palace)
Newcastle began their 2026 with a great victory over Crystal Palace.
Thiaw played a key role in the Magpies keeping a clean sheet against the Eagles, and also contributed significantly at the other end of the pitch, prodding the ball over the line to double his team's lead in the 78th minute.
This was Thiaw's third goal of the campaign, after his brace against Everton in November.
Spread the word, let's win it for Malick!
Unless we can do a massive vote bombing mission as Newcastle fans, we feel Igor Thiago might have this one sewn up, but it's still just good to see our lads being in the mix.
Malick Thiaw is on course to be a strong Player of the Season contender at the halfway point of the campaign. He hasn't looked back since he took the spot off Fabian Schar.
If he can stay injury-free and maintain his form, there's not likely to be anyone in the squad who can touch him for the Player of the Season honour.
