Update from Germany as Nick Woltemade seen training alone as Newcastle United star said to have flu
Nick Woltemade was expected to fly out to Germany on Monday to link up with Julian Nagelsmann's international side, but a statement released by the German FA confirmed that the Newcastle United striker had stayed in England.
Just hours after scoring in the win against Nottingham Forest, Woltemade stayed on Tyneside rather than flying out to Germany after the German FA reported that the striker had a 'flu infection'.
One Tuesday, a follow-up statement confirmed that Woltemade had flown out to link up with his international teammates.
While we'd love to see our star striker chalk up his first senior goal for his country, we're obviously apprehensive about his involvement if he's not 100% fit.
German media expects Nick Woltemade to feature in both games for his country
We've now had an update from German outlet Sport1 , who report that Woltemade has been training on his own, but they also expect him to be involved in both of Germany's upcoming games.
Germany takes on Luxembourg tomorrow night and then follows that up with a game against Northern Ireland on Monday, both of which are World Cup Qualifiers.
It doesn't sound as though Woltemade is ready to start the game against Luxembourg, but he could make an appearance off the bench.
We're keeping everything crossed that Nick Woltemade comes through international duty unscathed
It's more likely that, if he's to start either game, it will be the one in Northern Ireland on Monday.
Again, we just really hope that Julian Nagelsmann applies some common sense and doesn't try to overload our Number 27.
Nick Woltemade has made a terrific start at Newcastle United, and we'd very much like that to continue, thanks. Don't let him get injured on international duty.
