Newcastle United take on Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League tomorrow night and one man is itching to get out on the St. James' Park pitch against the Bundesliga runners-up.

This will be Newcastle's third game in the Champions League this season but it's going to be the first for 'unbelievable' midfielder Joelinton, who missed the previous games against AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain through injury.

If the big Brazilian is selected for Newcastle, which is practically an inevitability, it will be his first appearance in the competition since he was at Hoffenheim in 2018/19.

Joelinton is excited to make his CL debut for Newcastle

Our number seven spoke to BBC Radio Newcastle ahead of the game and discussed his excitement about making his debut:

“I’m very excited to play and I hope I start the game [against Borussia Dortmund].

I just want to be with the team to help the guys on the pitch.

I hope I can make my Champions League debut for Newcastle on Wednesday."

Newcastle currently sit atop Champions League Group F

Joelinton returned to action for Newcastle on Saturday following a hamstring injury that had kept him out of action for around a month. He managed 80 minutes, so it looks like he's back to something resembling full fitness.

It'll no doubt be a tough game for Newcastle on Wednesday but the Magpies go into the game full of confidence off the back of a 4-0 win against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.

Not to mention the fact that Newcastle are top of Group F with Dortmund propping up the table. After two games it's hardly relevant, but psychologically it could give Newcastle an edge.
