In the wake of Newcastle United's Carabao Cup victory, the good times keep rolling, especially for fan-favourite defender Dan Burn.

The 6'7" lad from Blyth was already on a high before the match at Wembley on 16th March after it was confirmed that new England boss Thomas Tuchel had included the 32-year-old in his first national squad.

Things got even better at Wembley as Dan Burn scored the opening goal with a powerful header, sending Newcastle on their way to their first domestic trophy in 70 years.

Then, before his feet could touch the ground, the big man found himself in the starting lineup at Wembley less than a week later as he made his debut for England against Latvia.

The good times keep coming for Dan Burn

Dan Burn to be made an honorary freeman of Northumberland

Now, ahead of the club's Carabao Cup celebration in Newcastle on Saturday, it has been confirmed that BDB will be made an honorary freeman of Northumberland.

As reported by the BBC, councillors unanimously voted through the motion, which is fantastic given that one council member is a Sunderland fan.

David Bawn, a Sunderland supporter and Tory councillor, said:

"This goes beyond tribal allegiance to Newcastle - this is someone who represents the region as a role model for aspiring sportsmen and women.

"I endorse this - through gritted teeth - for the good of the county!"

Dan Burn was even honoured by his former employer, ASDA

Even the ASDA store in Blyth where Dan Burn worked as a trolly collector when coming through the ranks made their own symbolic gesture after his Carabao Cup goal.

The superstore retired the number 33 porter high-vis jacket in honour of Dan Burn and the number he wears for Newcastle United.

Dan Burn is a shining example of what can happen if you never give up on your dreams and keep working hard. Rejected by Newcastle, rising through the leagues and now a cup-winning England international who plays for his boyhood club. What a story.
