Former Newcastle United midfielder Lee Clark has a dream, a dream that would likely have been realised by now were it not for Mike Ashley.

Just before Newcastle was taken over by the PIF in 2021, Mike Ashley had one last trick up his sleeve to put a dent in the club's future and that was to let one of the best and brightest academy products leave the club.

Bobby Clark. son of Lee, was hotly tipped to be the next big thing to come out of the Newcastle academy, which is likely why Liverpool were so interested in the youngster. The Reds offered a fee believed to be around £1.5million for the 16-year-old in August 2021 and Mike Ashley saw the pound signs and approved the sale much to the disgust of the Toon Army.

A couple of months later the long protracted takeover was finally given the green light and fans knew for a fact, that had that gone through sooner, there was no way the new owners would have let one of their top prospects leave for a rival club.

Bobby Clark signing a long-term deal at Liverpool - oh what could have been

Bobby Clark is starting to make a name for himself at Liverpool

Now 19, Clark has already broken into Jurgen Klopp's first team where he's bagged a goal and an assist in the game against Sparta Prague in the Europa League.

People are starting to stand up and take notice of the youngster who could have been doing this at his boyhood club were it not for that beer-swilling cockney git!

Bobby has the ability to outshine his father who made 11 appearances for the England U21s but never broke into that senior side.

Lee Clark hopes that Bobby will make a return to Newcastle in the future

Lee Clark was recently on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast with Sam Allardyce where they spoke about Bobby and the dream of him playing for Newcastle ... which does seem to be more Lee's dream than Bobby's, but we'll see.

“Absolutely. I don’t know how many fathers and sons have done it for the club. I was lucky enough to do it 265 times. Who knows, he might have to do an Alan Shearer and come back.

“But yeah, that would be my ultimate dream. Definitely.”

So far no father and son has represented Newcastle United in the Premier League so if it were to happen, it would be the ultimate pub quiz question somewhere down the line.

As much as we'd love to bring Bobby home, it would certainly cost a lot more than the £1.5million we got for him in the first place. Nice work, amazing businessman Mike Ashley.
