Two Newcastle United stars react as Alexander Isak joins Liverpool in £125m move
Alexander Isak finally got his wish as his £125 million move from Newcastle United to Liverpool finally went through on transfer deadline day.
It felt inevitable as the window went on that the only way to move on was to let Isak leave. He'd been so toxic that he left himself absolutely no way back.
A paragraph from a Daily Mail article put out after the move last night went around social media which perfectly expressed the feeling in the camp.
"Howe and Isak had not spoken since his statement, and senior players within the dressing-room were angered by his conduct. We were told of one player having to be calmed down by a compatriot after a meeting on the subject, such was the strength of his feeling for honouring the badge."
Who else thinks that it was Bruno Guimaraes ready to chin Alex Isak?
We probably don't need too many guesses to identify the player and 'compatriot' involved; it's just a case of which one of the Brazilians was the calm head and which was the aggressor. We'd suspect Joelinton was the one ready to chin Isak, but given Bruno Guimaraes' love for the club, we suspect that J7 was the calming influence in this case.
Two players we now know it won't have been are Anthony Gordon and Sven Botman, who have both publicly wished Alexander Isak well after his move.
Never has the phrase 'read the room' been more appropriate. We get it, you're mates who have worked together for a few years, but a public statement isn't going to go down well with a large chunk of the Newcastle fanbase right now.
Anthony Gordon and Sven Botman made public declarations of support to Isak
Gordon posted on his Instagram stories an image of himself and Isak side-by-side with a caption that read:
“Regardless of the situation and what’s gone on. It’s been a pleasure to play with you. One of the best chemistries I’ve had on the pitch and more importantly, a great person and teammate. I wish you nothing but the best brother.”
While Botman did something similar with his caption, reading:
"What started off as teammates growed [sic] into one of my rare best friendships. No more words needed brother. All the best in your next chapter."
While we get they are friends, this was probably one of those times that a private message would have been the way to go.
