Newcastle United have been busy on this transfer deadline day albeit graft with little end product in terms of incoming deals.
The Marc Guehi deal finally collapsed this afternoon as it was revealed that Crystal Palace never really had any intention of selling, although they have since signed two centre-backs today giving some of the most optimistic Newcastle fans hope of a resurrection of the deal.
Following that, Newcastle tried to bring in Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest but that deal didn't get off the ground with Forest asking for a player in exchange and Newcastle not willing to do so.
The Magpies have been busy in terms of outgoing players though with Joe White joining MK Dons earlier and now two more have left the club this evening.
Harrison Ashby finalised his season-long loan move to QPR earlier this evening and tonight the news has broken that Ryan Fraser has returned to Southampton after playing there last season.
The Saints have announced that Fraser has signed a two-year deal after a long summer waiting for the deal that looked inevitable to get done.
Earlier it was suggested that Newcastle and Fraser were in talks to terminate his deal, and given that no transfer fee has yet been mentioned it seems that's how the move unfolded.
Fraser has declared himself the 'happiest man in Southampton' now that the deal is done.
We're sure Eddie Howe is pretty happy too as his mini nemesis is finally off the books at Newcastle.
With an hour to go until the window shuts, it feels like this could be the last bit of transfer action involving Newcastle until January unless any fringe players leave for clubs where the transfer deadline is later than the UK deadline.
