Eddie Howe has named a surprise team for this evening's Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund.

We expected changes, but we thought it would just be Kieran Trippier on the left of defence with Tino Livramento on the right, but while Livramento does start it looks like he's playing as a wide forward in place of Miguel Almiron.

Lewis Hall gets his chance to shine in the Champions League as he replaces Dan Burn in the starting lineup.

Howe has made several changes to the midfield too.

Newcastle XI to face Dortmund

Joe Willock has come into the midfield while Joelinton gets pushed up as the wide forward on the left, flanking Callum Wilson in attack.

As always, there's scope for Willock and Joelinton to interchange, depending on how things are going.

Anthony Gordon gets a breather starting on the bench along with Miggy.

Has Eddie Howe made a masterstroke of a move benching Gordon and Almiron?

It's a barebones bench, as was expected with Lucas De Bolle and Lewis Miley named along with two goalkeepers.

The actual starting XI is good enough to win the game, and having Almiron and Gordon to come on late when Dortmund are tiring might be a genius move by Howe.

Howay the lads!
