If you watched Newcastle United's shockingly poor 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, you'd probably never have expected any player on the pitch to make it into anyone's Team of the Week selection.

Both sides were absolutely dire for 90 minutes, but there was one player wearing the dark blue and orange who was consistently good for the duration of the match but was being let down by those around him.

Lewis Hall was probably the only Newcastle player who could hold his head up high after Sunday's dismal affair.

The full-back never took his foot off the gas and made some bursting runs out of defence to get the Magpies on the front foot, but was also equally solid at the back. Something that has been a trademark for him this season.

Troy Deeney backs Lewis Hall for England

His performance was enough for Troy Deeney to select him for his Team of the Week for the BBC, where he said that Hall is making a strong case for a spot in the England team.

"Lewis Hall (Newcastle United): He was the best player on the pitch by a country mile during Newcastle's 0-0 draw at Wolves on Sunday, and he's starting to make the case that he should be starting for England. That's how good he's been this season."

We're not going to argue with him there. Hall shows every week what an outstanding talent we have on our hands.

We must keep hold of Lewis Hall at all costs

We're just thankful that Hall is a boyhood Newcastle fan, as we feel that might keep him at the club when other offers inevitably come along.

We aren't convinced we can keep hold of Tino Livramento, although their close relationship might factor into Tino's decision, but we have confidence that Lewis Hall will put up with a lot more, given his love for the club.

Hall is also being used as an example by the calmer sections of the fanbase as a player who arrived at the club and took a long time to blossom, with so many of our summer signings yet to reach their potential. It's a nice thought, but Jacob Ramsey, Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa aren't exactly green. That analogy might work for Nick Woltemade, but not the rest.
