Newcastle United may have suffered a defeat in the Premier League on Saturday as Manchester City picked up a 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium, but there was plenty for Toon fans to be happy about.

The Magpies fought hard and deserved more from the game than they got, with a couple of big decisions going against them throughout the game.

However, it was hard to be too disappointed after the match because Newcastle gave it everything and were probably the better side in the second half.

Lewis Hall bagged Newcastle's goal, albeit after a wicked deflection, but it was no less than his efforts deserved. Not just on the night, but all season.

Making his selections for the BBC Team of the Week, Troy Deeney said he had to find a spot for Lewis Hall because he's been so good all season.

Lewis Hall (Newcastle): I had to find a place for him because he has been fantastic over the course of the Premier League and even though his goal against Manchester City was a deflected strike, I just thought he was brilliant.

Hall has been Newcastle's best player since he returned from his injury and he somehow gets better with every game.

Lewis Hall loves scoring in Manchester

His goal on Saturday was only his third for Newcastle United, with the other two also coming in Manchester, but at the home of Man United.

You'd think that the roaming full-back would have more than just the three goals, given how often and how good he is at going forward.

Indeed, Hall spoke about wanting more goals after Saturday's game.

"I feel as a team the last few games we have played really well. I’m a defender, that’s my first job but I’m proud of myself of starting attacks. I want to get more goals and assists.”

Hall is already being tipped to be England's starting left-back at the World Cup and if he starts adding goals to his game, that spot will be nailed on.
