'Touch and go': Eddie Howe gives big injury update as Newcastle United prepare to face Manchester City
Newcastle United will welcome Manchester City to St James' Park on Saturday evening for a 5:30 pm kick-off live on Sky Sports.
It's a huge test for the Magpies, who are desperate to get their Premier League season on the right track.
Newcastle have yet to win away from home, and so far have suffered defeats at St James' Park against Arsenal and Liverpool, so they will be desperate to pick up points against one of the big guns.
It's never easy facing Man City, but Eddie Howe also has a couple of injuries to deal with, and told reporters on Friday morning (via The Chronicle) that he's still waiting for a few players to return.
Anthony Gordon is 'touch and go' for tomorrow
Anthony Gordon hasn't fully recovered from his hip injury and remains a doubt for the game tomorrow.
"Ant is very close. He has worked very hard over the break. He is touch-and-go for the game, and we will make a decision on him today."
Eddie Howe has form when it comes to risking Anthony Gordon, though, so we expect he'll play.
Tino Livramento is close to a return
Meanwhile, this game may come too soon for Tino Livramento.
"He is very close. He has trained in the break. It is great to see and have him back.
"He has been out a while, his injury was serious enough we treat him right. He is in pretty good shape.
"He is an outstanding player, he has the technical qualities, together with Lewis Hall, I am really pleased to have them both potentially available."
