Once again Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are going head-to-head in the transfer market with a couple of players potentially having to choose between the two.

Both clubs have a keen interest in Lille striker Jonathan David but the more immediate battle seems to be for the signature of Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Pedro Neto.

A report from Give Me Sport is now claiming that Spurs are in pole position to land £60million-rated Neto this summer.

Newcastle have several wingers on their radar with Jarrod Bowen, Noni Madueke and Anthony Elanga all heavily linked.

How about a cheeky bid for Dani Olmo?

Spurs are winning the race for Pedro Neto

Pedro Neto has been on the Magpies' radar for a while but there has never seemed to be much forward momentum which suggests he's not near the top of Eddie Howe's list.

Now it looks as though if the Magpies want to make it happen, they will have to act fast to get ahead of Tottenham who can use their European qualification as a sweetener if Newcastle do challenge for Neto's signature.

David Seaman once described Neto as a 'special' player on his Seaman Says podcast, but his injury problems have perhaps kept him from truly living up to that title.

Pedro Neto's injury history is a huge red flag

It could also be that injury record that has stopped Newcastle from progressing beyond the 'interested' stage.

Frankly, we'd rather see us going for Jarrod Bowen, however impossible that may look.

A player that we've thought about, and it seems The Shields Gazette have had the same thought too, is RB Leipzig's Dani Olmo who has been outstanding at Euro 2024. The Shields Gazette even point out that our new sporting director Paul Mitchell is the man who took Olmo to Leipzig so he could use that relationship again to Newcastle's favour. Olmo has a £50million release clause that was due to end the day after the Euro 2024 final, but because of Spain's involvement will now expire on 20th according to Fabrizio Romano.

Although, we feel we may be dreaming a bit here.
