Last night Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur tasted defeat ahead of Sunday's meeting at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs have now gone five games without a victory while Newcastle's tally of away wins remains at just one, so neither side will be brimming with confidence going into Sunday's match.

While Eddie Howe has a raft of injuries to deal with, Ange Postecoglu is waiting to find out if key player Son Heung-min will be fit enough to take part after he picked up a knock late on against West Ham last night.

Son Heung-min looked to be in some pain last night and faces a fitness test ahead of Sunday's game

Son was in some discomfort after picking up a back injury towards the end of the game last night, and although the South Korean was able to come out and partake in interviews at full-time and insist he's fine, Ange Postecoglu is being a bit more pragmatic.

“No update yet. We’ll see how he is. He was a bit sore after the game. There’s a couple of them, fair to say, who were a bit sore. We’ll wait to see what the outcome is in terms of Sunday but there’s nothing apart from Sonny that looks too significant.”

We're not ones to take pleasure in anyone picking up injuries, but we're not above hoping that certain players can't play against us, so while we hope Son's back injury is nothing serious, we wouldn't be at all opposed to it being just bad enough to keep him out of Sunday's game.

Newcastle will cling on to any advantage for Sunday

Let's be honest, watching that episode of The Walking Dead last night that was the last 10-15 minutes of the match against Everton, we could do with any advantage we can get for Sunday.

Eddie Howe could potentially welcome back Sean Longstaff into the mix, which does at least give a solid option off the bench, something that we've been sorely lacking for the last couple of weeks.

We have a good record against Tottenham, a decent record at the new stadium, but our away form this season has been dire. Anything could happen.
