Three points on the road for Eddie Howe's Mags but they made hard work of it

Newcastle United made it four away wins on the bounce for the first time since 2016 with a 2-3 win over Nottingham Forest.

In truth, Eddie Howe's side made hard work of it, far harder than it needed to be, but the quality of all three goals Newcastle scored was absolutely superb.

Unsurprisingly, the first Forest equaliser came from catching our lads on the break. Dan Burn was caught out by Anthony Elanga who outpaced our lanky full-back before slotting beyond Dubravka who'd come racing off his line too soon. However, we're not going to pile on the lad this time as he was left completely exposed by our midfield and had no support from Sven Botman either. It was a team effort to concede that one.

Callum Hudson-Odoi bagged Forest's second goal right on the stroke of half time as he took aim for the top right corner, but the ball took a wicked deflection and ended up in the left-hand side of the net leaving Martin Dubravka completely flat-footed.

Our goals were a different story. Each one would have been worthy of winning the game. Bruno Guimaraes opened the scoring early on with a beautiful finish on ten minutes from a well-worked corner. It was reminiscent of that Paulo Di Canio goal with just a touch less flair.

After Elanga levelled things on 26 minutes, it was once again down to Fabian Schar to find the back of the net on 43 minutes. The Swiss defender stroked the ball home from inside the box under immense amounts of pressure. It was a brilliant finish through a crowd and one that any striker would have been proud of.

The lead didn't last long with Callum Hudson-Odoi's deflected effort finding the back of the net in the sixth minute of first-half stoppage time.

Bruno Guimaraes was superb for Newcastle today

Newcastle rode their luck in the second half with Taiwo Awoniyi tucking the ball away only for it to be ruled offside and the Magpies also survived a penalty scare. It was one of those that could have gone either way depending on the referee but thankfully that meant it was one that VAR could not overturn. Forest fans will feel hard done by, Newcastle fans will praise the officials for getting it right.

Bruno Guimaraes, who was superb all game, wrapped things up on 66 minutes with a well-placed finish from outside the box beyond Matz Sels.

It's frustrating as hell watching Newcastle this season, but it's never boring. Can we start to string some results together now please? Please, Eddie? Thanks.
