Three Newcastle United fixtures moved for TV as January choices made by broadcasters
The UK broadcasters have made their choices for live games to be shown in January and once again Newcastle United are set to feature heavily.
The Magpies are a popular pick for the rights holders, which is great for the club as it means a bigger share of the revenue, but it can be a pain in the posterior for fans as those who are super organised and plan in advance end up having to change plans.
In fairness, the Premier League and the rights holders are getting better at providing enough time to minimise this kind of impact, but they left things a bit late when announcing the one game that will be played on Boxing Day this year, which did end up being Newcastle United's clash with Manchester United.
Three of Newcastle's games have been selected for live UK broadcast in January, two for Sky Sports and one on TNT Sports.
Newcastle have had three January fixtures moved for TV
As confirmed in a statement on the Newcastle United website, the affected games are as follows:
"Three of Newcastle United’s Premier League matches in January have been selected for live television broadcast in the UK.
"The Magpies’ trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers moves to Sunday, 18th January – kick-off 2pm GMT – and will be shown live on Sky Sports.
"Aston Villa’s visit to St. James’ Park will now be on Sunday, 25th January, due to the Villans’ Europa League fixture at Fenerbahçe on the preceding Thursday. The game will be live on Sky Sports with a 2pm GMT kick-off.
"And United’s game at Liverpool on Saturday, 31st January has been selected by TNT Sports, with kick-off moving to 8pm GMT."
It's now a Saturday night kick-off for Liverpool v Newcastle
It looks as though the game against Aston Villa was going to be moved anyway due to their involvement in the Europa League, but both clubs will now get a little bonus with the game being broadcast live.
We aren't a fan of these 8pm kick-offs on a Saturday, but we knew there was no way that Liverpool v Newcastle wasn't going to be picked for TV.
Newcastle also play PSV and PSG in the Champions League in January, which will also be broadcast on TNT Sports.
