Newcastle United have been extremely quiet in the transfer window this summer despite having brought in five players.

They've been even more quiet when it comes to outgoing transfers with just Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson being moved on - and those were deals that nobody wanted to do.

However, with less than 36 hours until the transfer deadline, Newcastle have finally plugged in their fax machine and seem ready to do business with loan moves being touted for several players.

Young goalkeeper Max Thompson has completed a loan move to League Two side Chesterfield today, but he may not be the last player to move out on loan.

Harrison Ashby spent last season on loan at Swansea

Harrison Ashby could be heading to the Championship again

The Sun's Alan Nixon has also claimed via Patreon that three Championship sides have their eye on a loan move for right-back Harrison Ashby.

Stoke City, QPR and Blackburn Rovers all have their eye on the former West Ham man who spent last season on loan at Swansea.

There had been rumblings that Ashby could be sold this summer but it now looks as though if he moves at all, it will be on loan.

Ashby needs playing time to prove his worth to Eddie Howe

From Newcastle's point of view they will demand assurances that whoever takes Ashby on loan will do so with the intent of giving him plenty of game time.

Hopefully, this season Ashby can have a more injury-free campaign and really start to show Eddie Howe what he can do.

Ashby's arrival at Newcastle hinted that he'd be Kieran Trippier's long-term replacement but just six months later the Magpies spent £32 million on Tino Livramento who has now moved up to first-choice right-back. Therefore Ashby needs to prove his worth or risk being cast aside.
