Third time lucky for Newcastle United? - Sky Sports confirms another bid has gone in for Marc Guehi

Newcastle United are still trying to get that Marc Guehi deal done with Crystal Palace but the London club are playing hardball on price.

It's probably more like Newcastle are trying to lowball Palace and they're not having it.

Palace reportedly want £55 million up front for Marc Guehi plus add-ons as Chelsea - who have part ownership in every player ever to grace the Premier League - will be due a portion of the sale thanks to a sell-on clause that remains active in Guehi's contract.

Newcastle recently had a £50 million bid rejected and it is being widely reported today that the Magpies have made what will be their third bid for the England centre-back.

Newcastle have put in a third (and final?) bid for Marc Guehi

Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has provided an update this afternoon saying that the Magpies had made their third offer which Palace are now considering.

Meanwhile, local journalist Joel Bland believes this will be Newcastle's final bid but confidence remains that a deal will be done. The player and his representatives are happy, it's just down to the two clubs to agree a fee.

Bland was asked what the contingency is should this bid be rejected to which he replied "No idea".

Surely Newcastle don't walk away now

Our feeling is that this has gone too far now and that here's no way Newcastle simply walk away. They've been aware from the start that the deal would likely cost them £65 million and they've probably made allowances for that, but they aren't about to just walk into Selhurst Park and hand over exactly what they want.

If someone at the club has said this will be their final bid, it's likely a bluff to accelerate the process.

Oh no ... I hope Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman aren't reading this!
