'They'll rise up': Gary Neville says it's not time to panic as Newcastle United's season continues to stutter
One thing that Eddie Howe has proved time and time again at Newcastle United is that even when things are bad, he finds a way.
Obviously, after a defeat yesterday, those Newcastle fans with the big shoes and curly red wigs were out in force trying to put a ticking clock on Eddie Howe's time as Newcastle manager, having learned absolutely nothing from watching the game.
Newcastle are way better off with a stable manager who knows the club and the players inside and out, who has taken the club from this kind of form before and completely turned things around, rather than pulling the trigger and getting another manager in who may or may not work, likely kicking off a cycle of manager after manager.
Eddie Howe will get the ball rolling at Newcastle; we have 100% confidence in that. If we were playing poorly and losing, we'd maybe be thinking differently, but we've played well enough to win most of our games this season; we've just struggled in front of goal as the team is going through a transitional period.
Gary Neville has urged Newcastle fans to remain calm after a slow start to the season
Gary Neville understands this, as he said on the Gary Neville Podcast for Sky Sports, that there's no cause for alarm at Newcastle and the good times will come.
“It is a horrible one for Newcastle. I didn’t think they played at their best. They fought. They’re solid defensively.
“They were hanging in there, a bit like Man City last week at one point, when Eddie Howe went to a back five and you couldn’t argue with it because there was wave after wave of attack. They’ll be disappointed.
“They’ll be gutted with how the season has started. But I think the ingredients are right here. There’s no need to panic. Those Newcastle fans at the end, there’s still a lot of them who were appreciative of the performance. They played against a good side.
“I don’t think there's a need for changes here or anything like that. They just need to get into their flow. I think they’ll rise up the league. They’ll win a lot of points. They’ll win a lot of matches. Today they just played against probably, at this moment in time, the best team in the league. They’re very difficult to play against, Arsenal.”
There's a lot of football still to be played
Newcastle didn't start last season particularly well either, and we won a cup and qualified for the Champions League. There's really no need for all the doom and gloom just yet.
We can just hope that this is our only period where the results aren't going our way. Last season, we had a couple of those, which bookended the season.
There are a lot of points yet to play for. I mean, do you really think Sunderland are going to finish in the top six? Howay.
