'They wanna be the quarterback': Anthony Gordon now compares Nick Woltemade to England teammate
Anthony Gordon faced the media as England's representative as the international camp begins preparations for the latest round of fixtures.
England take on Wales in a Friendly at Wembley on Thursday before resuming their World Cup Qualification bid with a game against Latvia in Riga a week today.
Newcastle United are represented at England level this time around by Gordon and Dan Burn, and it's the Toon winger who was sent out to talk to reporters by Thomas Tuchel.
As he always does, Gordon spoke well and near the end of the interview, Gordon was asked about playing with Nick Woltemade and likened it to playing with Harry Kane.
Anthony Gordon admits he prefers playing with a striker like Nick Woltemade
Gordon shared how it suits his style playing with forwards like Woltemade and Kane, who like to come deep and receive the ball and be involved in the buildup.
"I think they do play a very similar style of football [Nick Woltemade and Harry Kane], in terms of they wanna almost be a quarterback, they want to come in and create, they don't just want to finish the chances.
"The amount of assists Harry's got in the past couple of years and over his career is outstanding. For me personally, I think it helps me because my style suits playing with that style of striker, because I can run off them. If defenders want to come in and engage with them, I can run off the back."
Anthony Gordon looks up to Harry Kane
Gordon also spoke about how he pesters Harry Kane all the time when they're on international duty, asking the England leading goal-scorer for tips all the time.
Hopefully, over the next fortnight, he'll be asking Kane for tips on shooting that he can pass on to the rest of the team, as they all still seem shy when in front of goal.
If Nick Woltemade can replicate Harry Kane's goalscoring exploits as well as his playing style, we're going to be a very happy Toon Army.
