Even though it looks like Anthony Gordon will miss out on the starting eleven for England this evening the cries for him to start get louder and louder.

As we've just covered, it seems like Gareth Southgate is intent on sticking with his Trent Alexander-Arnold project which means Phil Foden is more than likely to start over Anthony Gordon on the left side of the England attack.

The Telegraph have reported that Southgate intends to stick with the same starting eleven who bagged a victory in England's opening game of Euro 2024 as they held on to an early one-goal lead given to them via the head of Jude Bellingham.

Despite the victory, many pundits questioned the effectiveness of Foden on the left and Alexander-Arnold in the middle with most pundits saying that Anthony Gordon would have been a much bigger threat.

Theo Walcott has backed Gordon for England

Now former England and Arsenal man Theo Walcott has added his voice to the chorus of people saying that Gordon should be in from the start against Denmark in today's 5pm kick-off telling The Chronicle that he likes the way Gordon keeps defenders guessing.

“I like Anthony Gordon. I’ve seen him up close and personal. I like the fact he likes going on the outside as well, not that sort of standard inverted winger.

“I always feel he likes to challenge and keeps the defenders guessing and I feel like England’s going to need something different. I think that’s why he’s there. He’s there to provide something different for that squad.

“So, if I was gonna change things, I’d probably put him in.”

“So I’d probably like to see Anthony Gordon, if I’m being brutally honest, for me, he’s so exciting, he’s fresh and he’s fearless,”

We won't stop beating the Anthony Gordon drum

At this point it must only be Southgate himself who believes his Plan A is the right plan. I've got a mate who supports Everton and as such loathes Anthony Gordon and even he said he should be starting.

I would say it won't matter if England win, but that's not true. I'll still be here shouting into the void about how Gordon would have given us something more.

Unless he does play and he has a stinker (which is unlikely but not impossible) in which case I will deny all knowledge of ever writing this and blame ChatGPT.
