Italian media are doing their crazy maths again as Sandro Tonali lands in Italy to link up with the national side. You have to admire their persistence if nothing else.

Ever since the wheels of the private jet that brought Sandro Tonali to England to sign his contract with Newcastle United hit the tarmac in Woolsington, the Italian press have been desperate to bring him back home, considering scenario after scenario which would see the midfield maestro return to Serie A.

Obviously, none of them have come anywhere close to being true, and Tonali continues to set the Premier League alight with his high-energy, effortless brand of football.

We were actually quite surprised by how few stories there were over the summer linking Tonali with a move back to Italy. It felt like the journalists over there had finally come to terms with the fact that no Italian side could afford his boots now, but they're back with a vengeance today.

Sandro Tonali is back home to represent his country

Sandro Tonali is in Italy, so he's obviously moving to Italy

After landing in Milan to link up with the Italy camp, Tonali met with his Italy-based agent, and that, to Italian journalists, can only mean one thing - he's working on a deal to come home.

Juventus need a central midfielder, and they've had their eyes on Tonali for a while. And now that the Italian has met with his agent in Italy, it must be happening. At least that's how Calciomercato sees it.

It couldn't just be that they're having a catch-up, given that they live in different countries. There could be a million reasons for them meeting, from just a friendly coffee or maybe even plotting on asking Newcastle for a new deal, but to the Italians, it must mean he's going to Juventus.

Sandro Tonali will be in action for Italy on Saturday and Tuesday

Whatever the truth, we'd be absolutely shocked, stunned, dumbfounded, astonished, bewildered and stupefied if it were to engineer a move to Juventus.

Sandro Tonali's Italy have two World Cup Qualifiers on the horizon with a trip to Estonia on Saturday followed by the visit of Israel on Tuesday.

We expect our midfield hero will be involved in both games as he's become a massive part of that Italian midfield too. Fingers crossed he returns home safe and sound and injury-free.
