Newcastle United booked their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 win over Fulham on Wednesday night, thanks to goals from Yoane Wissa on his first start and a last-minute winner from Lewis Miley.

It was the performance and the result everyone needed after Sunday's bitter derby day disappointment.

Newcastle's reward for their efforts was a draw against Manchester City in the semi-finals, with the first leg to be played at St James' Park.

It was a party atmosphere around St James' Park last night, but there was a big cloud looming over the cathedral on the hill.

Tino Livramento's knee injury took the shine off the win over Fulham

Initially, there was concern when Lewis Hall's name was absent from the team sheet, with Eddie Howe later confirming that the left-back had a minor hamstring injury.

While Howe says they don't think it's serious, there's now a big worry he won't be fit to take on Chelsea at 12:30pm on Saturday at St James' Park.

He's likely to not be the only former Chelsea man missing from Howe's squad, as Tino Livramento had to come off during the game against Fulham with what looked like a knee injury.

Eddie Howe said it didn't look good for Tino Livramento last night

Speaking after the game last night, Eddie Howe told Sky Sports that it doesn't look good for Tino, albeit it was too soon to say for definite.

Howe will no doubt be asked for an update on Tino on Friday morning during his pre-match press conference, and we can only hope that it's better news than we're expecting.

Newcastle's defensive options are depleted right now and it could lead to Lewis Miley continuing at right back with Alex Murphy thrown into the starting lineup.
