'Talks continuing': Craig Hope provided a midday update on Newcastle United's Yoane Wissa talks with no further update forthcoming
Newcastle United fans have been waiting for news on the club's pursuit of Yoane Wissa all day after journalist Craig Hope reported on talks earlier today.
In an update to the long-running striker search, Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope took to X to say that talks for Yoane Wissa were continuing today and that the focus would be on agreeing a deal.
🗣️ Yoane Wissa talks continuing today between clubs. I’m told it’s as much a case of trying to agree a deal now (as opposed to incremental bids) & confidence remains that Newcastle move will happen #nufc
It seems as though Newcastle are ready to ditch the approach that allowed the Marc Guehi saga to drag on for so long last season, and are willing to sit down and thrash out a deal rather than messing about with daft bids. That can only be a good thing.
Craig Hope's update suggested that a deal for Yoane Wissa could move quickly
However, that update from Hope came out around midday today, and since then, there doesn't appear to have been any update (at the time of writing, at least).
Hope made it sound as though a resolution would be reached soon, but if that is the case, they're keeping things under wraps for now, it seems.
Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest are both keen on the 28-year-old as well, so there's no room for Newcastle to mess this one up, or they'll just be opening the door for one of our rivals to swoop in.
Come on, Craig, get on the blower to your contacts, mate
Craig Hope is currently out in Singapore awaiting the arrival of the Newcastle squad later this week. In the meantime, he watched over Arsenal and AC Milan earlier today, which could be a reason why he's not provided an update.
At the time of writing, Hope's last post on X was three hours ago after Arsenal's 1-0 win over AC Milan, so there has been plenty of time for him to have found an update on the Wissa situation.
Still, it wouldn't be Newcastle United if they didn't find a way to drag this out, would it?
