Heading into the January transfer window Newcastle United will be hoping to do at least some business but we have to bear in mind that the Magpies will be waiting until the summer to do any huge business.

It's unlikely, then, that Newcastle will add a new striker to their ranks in the new year, instead waiting until the summer.

That being said, however, one of Newcastle's top transfer targets is set to become a free agent in the summer and as such is free to talk to clubs in January to agree to a summer move, and with that in mind, Newcastle have already opened talks with his representatives.

We're of course talking about Canadian striker Jonathan David who sits atop my personal transfer wish list for a new striker, accounting for a bit of realism. Ideally we'd sign Viktor Gyokeres or even Victor Osimhen.

Jonathan David says which club he's always wanted to play for

Jonathan David's form for Lille is only going to bring more clubs to the table in a bid to sign the 24-year-old this summer with him having scored 13 goals in 19 games already this season.

Now, David has revealed to The Athletic which club would be difficult for him to turn down if they came knocking.

“Barcelona was always the team I grew up supporting. When you grow up supporting a team, it’s your dream to play for them.”

It wasn't Newcastle United

We probably weren't expecting him to say Newcastle if we're being honest, but it would have been nice.

Thankfully, we haven't seen Barcelona's name linked with the free-agent scramble as yet, but if they get wind of this, and can find another £100,000-a-week in their budget, they may join the race.

Hopefully, we'll find out in January where Jonathan David intends to play next season and ideally it will be in the Premier League with Newcastle.
