Newcastle United fans have been on tenterhooks for months now, awaiting some form of update on the future of St James' Park.
The overwhelming majority of fans are opposed to relocating from St James' Park and are hoping that the top architects who have been hired by the club are able to find a way to expand and modernise the current stadium.
However, with the Metro station under the Gallowgate and the listed buildings behind the Milburn stand the mechanics of an expansion suggest that if Newcastle want a state-of-the-art stadium they may have to move.
Leazes Park behind the current stadium seems to be the best compromise, the new ground would still sit proudly on top of the hill and be a feature in the city much like the current ground is, and while it won't be St James' Park, it'll be close enough.
Meanwhile, Populous, the architecture firm responsible for the stunning Tottenham Hotspur stadium, has been tasked with coming up with a strategy for Newcastle but they have also been working with the PIF on a vision for a new 92000+ seater stadium in Saudi Arabia.
The visuals for the new King Salman stadium, which is expected to be finished in 2029 and will be the National stadium for the 2034 World Cup in Saudi have been revealed.
The stadium literally looks like it has burst out of the ground like a volcano from the outside while partially covered seating inside is equally impressive.
This is the kind of thing Newcastle United could expect should they opt to move away from St James' Park.
Of course, we'd all love to remain right in the heart of the city, and if we could bring St James' Park into the 21st century that would be ideal.
However, in terms of pure spectacle and showing off, creating one of, if not the most impressive stadia in Britain, we'd definitely have to build something new.
The club has promised an update on the stadium development in early 2025 so we will have to wait and see what's coming next.
