Spanish club 'close to agreement' with Newcastle United over January move for talented winger
A lot has been written about how Antonio Cordero's loan to Belgian side KVC Westerlo has become the latest loan disaster for Newcastle United.
After the 19-year-old winger chose Newcastle over Barcelona and Real Madrid, you'd think that the least we could do for the lad is to find him a top club to move to on loan to develop.
Instead, we shipped him off to the Belgian Pro League to a side who are perched just above the drop zone.
To add insult to injury, they aren't even using our player, with Cordero having only played 98 minutes all season for Westerlo. It's an embarrassment.
Antonio Cordero could be heading back to the Segunda Liga
Newcastle are thought to be far from happy with the situation and are set to recall him from his loan spell in January, with a move back to Spain for the second half of the season more likely.
Reports from Spain have now suggested that Deportivo La Coruna are 'close to an agreement' to take the talented winger on loan.
El Ideal Gallego claims that Cordero would prefer a move back to the Segunda Liga, where he feels he'll get more minutes. Deportivo currently top that league, so it could be an ideal move for the Spain U19 international.
A move to Deportivo makes sense for all parties
Even the second division of Spain has to be a higher level of football than the bottom of the Belgian Pro League. It's still not ideal; we'd prefer to see what he could do on a bigger stage.
However, if he were to go to a La Liga side, it's likely that we'd be in the same situation as we are now in terms of a lack of playing time.
The lad's confidence is probably shattered after feeling he can't even get into that Westerlo team, so maybe a move to the top of the Segunda Liga is the best move for everyone.
