Liverpool have reportedly made their first move for Alexander Isak after months of speculation that they were going to try to sign the Newcastle United forward this summer.

Newcastle have always maintained that Alexander Isak is not for sale. This is also under the instructions of the club's chairman, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, who made it clear to the board after lifting the Carabao Cup that Isak is not to be sold.

However, despite the firm stance, Liverpool's interest has never wavered, and now the Reds have made an official approach to tell Newcastle they would put together a package worth £120 million to sign the Sweden star.

Despite the offer of a record-shattering deal, the Magpies have remained firm that Isak is not for sale, which has prompted Liverpool to now move for Hugo Ekitike, the player Newcastle are in talks for already.

Luke Edwards expects Newcastle to miss out on Hugo Ekitike

Now Luke Edwards has said on X that he doesn't see Newcastle being able to fight off Liverpool on both fronts, then following up after Newcastle rejected their approach, they're likely to miss out on Ekitike.

"Liverpool are effectively saying sell Isak to us or we are going to sign Ekitike. Some flex on their part. You suspect Newcastle can only fight them off on one front not two #nufc #LFC"
"Liverpool have been told Isak isn’t for sale. Newcastle have made this clear. Now they risk losing out on their number one transfer target as a result. Taking the two options together, keeping Isak is the better of the two."

This could be a golden opportunity for the PIF

We absolutely agree that if Newcastle had to choose between the two, then Isak is indeed the better option; however, this could be exactly what the PIF needs to show fans that they remain committed to NUFC.

If Newcastle can go toe-to-toe with Liverpool for Ekitike, we suspect that the player would choose Newcastle given the history between the two, also the fact that it's clear that Liverpool have made Ekitike their second choice.

If the PIF sanctions Newcastle to go all-out to match every Liverpool bid to beat them to the signing of Ekitike, it would be a huge statement. Although saying that, if Liverpool start to get silly out of spite, then let them overpay, obviously.
