Newcastle United have been heavily linked with an interest in one of the Bundesliga's top scorers as they look to add firepower in January.

VfB Stuttgart's Serhou Guirassy has 15 goals this season and is behind only Harry Kane in the German Bundesliga's top scorers charts right now.

Newcastle are one of a few clubs looking at the 27-year-old after his amazing start to the season, and it has been reported that his current contract contains a €17million (£15million) release clause making him a very affordable option.

Guirassy has been backed to move to Newcastle

Now Mike Verwij, a journalist for Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, has said that he expects Guirassy to move to the Premier League after a switch to Eredivisie side Ajax failed to materialise in the summer.

Not only does Verwij think that Guirassy will bag himself a Premier League move, he dropped a hint to MSN (via Sports Witness) that he expects his destination to be Newcastle.

“That boy did not want to take a step to the Eredivisie. He had set his sights on the Premier League, and he will probably make that step”

He said before apparently namedropping Newcastle.

Guirassy would likely be the third-choice striker at Newcastle despite his form

We really hope this is true. Newcastle desperately need another striker as this season has proved, and the rate Guirassy is finding the net he seems like the ideal candidate.

In a previous report we mentioned the step up from the Bundesliga to the Premier League for strikers can be a hard one, using Harry Kane's goalscoring form in the Bundesliga as an example of how much easier it seems to be for strikers in Germany.

If he does come to Newcastle we don't expect his goals-per-game ratio to maintain at this high level, but he looks like a solid option to back up Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.
