Sandro Tonali signed secret contract but is still expected to enter talks with Newcastle United
When Ross Wilson joined Newcastle United, it was expected that one of his first tasks would be to tie down Sandro Tonali to a new deal.
The Italian midfielder has become a massive player for Newcastle since his £55 million move from AC Milan, despite being forever linked with a move back to Serie A.
That constant speculation always seems to come from the Italian side and is more in hope than any kind of reality, with the midfielder settled and happy on Tyneside.
Still, Newcastle know that they need to reward his form with improved terms so that he doesn't start to think about moving elsewhere.
Sandro Tonali signed a new deal last year
That being said, Newcastle aren't in danger of Tonali's contract expiring any time soon, as it has been revealed today that he actually signed an extension last season and is now tied to the Magpies until 2029 with an option to extend it an additional year.
The Chronicle goes on to say, though, that the club will open talks with Tonali over improved terms despite the extension having been signed.
Again, this makes sense as it shows the player that he is valued at the club, and should hopefully avoid a repeat of the Alexander Isak situation.
Tonali is still repaying his 'debt' to Newcastle United
Tonali still feels like he owes Newcastle a debt after being hit with a 10-month ban for gambling shortly after he arrived on Tyneside.
Newcastle stuck by him through that entire ordeal and helped him in his recovery, and it has proved to have been a worthwhile exercise for both parties.
We are still sure that this won't stop the constant lies from Italy that Tonali is homesick, but we'd love to see Tonali handed a new deal so that he knows just how important he is to the club.
