Sandro Tonali quotes leave door open for return to Italy - That's going to go down well with Italian media
Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali is forever being linked with a return to Italy by the media in his home country.
As recently as a couple of days ago, the fact that Tonali met with his agent when he returned home for International duty sparked rumours of a move to Juventus.
It doesn't matter what he does or says, Italian journalists will find a way to spin it into a story about the 25-year-old returning to Serie A.
However, this time, Tonali has done the lazy journalists' job for them with his latest quotes.
Don't say things like that, Sandro!
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has published quotes from Tonali on his website, where the Newcastle star has said he hasn't ruled out a return to Italy.
“You can never know what will happen, I tell everyone it’s possible. I’m not closing the door on Italy; it’s my country. Maybe not now because I’ve found my balance at Newcastle. But the league is getting better and better, the level of the teams is rising.”
So we're sure that the Italian media are going to take these quotes in the context in which they were intended.
Keep dreaming, Italy
Tonali clearly says 'not now' and that he's found his balance at Newcastle, but we can practically guarantee that's not how the quotes are going to be presented in Italy.
It's a compliment in a way that Italy are so desperate to have him back playing there that they will keep creating stories to keep the dream alive.
For now, though, Tonali is settled at Newcastle and is part of a midfield trio widely regarded as the best in the league. Why would he leave?
