Ryan Fraser opens up on how he feels about Eddie Howe after falling out at Bournemouth and Newcastle United
Ryan Fraser must have wondered which God he'd upset when Eddie Howe followed him to Newcastle United after they had a famous bust-up at Bournemouth.
During the pandemic, Ryan Fraser refused to sign a short-term contract extension to help Bournemouth avoid relegation, causing a rift between him and Eddie Howe.
Fraser ultimately moved to Newcastle United, but little did he know that soon after, Eddie Howe would be hired as Newcastle boss.
Initially, things were fine, but the relationship eroded over time, and Fraser was ultimately sent to train with the reserves before being moved on to Southampton.
Ryan Fraser seems to still hold Eddie Howe in high regard
Now playing in Australia, Fraser has been speaking to Paramount+ (h/t The Chronicle), where the diminutive Scot has spoken about Eddie Howe and it seems that the wee man is still pretty fond of the Toon gaffer despite all that has gone on.
"When I went to Bournemouth, it was because I wanted to be with him.
"My mum and dad had done everything for me. I had to learn to cook, and you know what the club helped me with that massively.
"Eddie Howe again sort of took me in as a role of a dad figure and helped me with that and everything I needed. He took me out for dinners and stuff."
"You can see what he is doing now at Newcastle. What he done at Bournemouth.
"He will be England manager one day no doubt. He just makes everyone better and he can make any player better.
"That is the highest compliment I can give him. He can make any player in this world better."
Eddie Howe hinted that Ryan Fraser wasn't committed to Newcastle
We'll probably never know what actually happened behind the scenes at Newcastle when Fraser was relegated to the reserves, but Eddie Howe did drop a hint in a press conference at the time, saying:
"Ryan’s training with the Under-21s. I made the decision to concentrate on players that are committed to Newcastle. For the benefit of the group, I’ve made that call."
Perhaps we'll have to wait for Howe's autobiography to find out the full extent of the rift.
